This slideshow tells you in brief of the period from November 2010 to April 2011.
It is said that: "If you want to make God laugh, make plans." I would say: "If you want make Immigration Authorities laugh, make itineraries. It's a long story (which I may tell another time) but in summary, instead of going to California for the winter, we "chose" Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada.
We spent five months on the 18th floor of a warm apartment building in North Vancouver, located near a trail along the Capilano River. One hour of aerobic walking uphill took us to the Cleveland Dam and a thirty minute healthy walk downstream where the river empties into Burrard Inlet, took us to Ambleside Park. And by the way, there was also Park Royal, a large shopping mall on the way to Ambleside.
We took advantage of the abundance of snow in the mountains this year for skiing and snowshoeing and this, almost every other day. We had a choice of 3 nearby ski resorts and other winter activities. We have come to know and appreciate this beautiful 100 mile strip which is the Canadian West coast. Also, we did some more travelling to the East within the province.
Being in one place for a change and the lure of the west brought us many visitors from the east, family and friends: rich and unforgettable moments.
We were planning to go to Alaska this summer but this chapter of our North American epic had to be modified. Diane cannot currently enter U.S. territory and Ted must be outside Canada on May 26. International relationships are so complicated!
We're already on the way home (the big cross-Canada from West to East) and expect to arrive in the Montreal area on May 22 Our trip lasted two years - we started May 23, 2009.
What does the future hold? Perhaps a second epic in the Americas or elsewhere? We do not know yet. This will depend on our various constraints and the possible convergence of our respective projects.
